Proud to be a Cub Scout!

This was Jonah's very first Pine Wood Derby! His den was in charge of the color guard to start the event off w/ a bang! (he's in back, top left of photo)
 Getting ready to race!
Now, for posterity's sake, I'd be remiss if I didn't tell the story. You've all seen a pine wood derby where there's one car that never quite makes it over the finish line. It putts down the racing ramp, s.l.o.w.l.y. making its way to the end ... only to putter out a couple of feet from the finish line. The officiators are compassionate enough to kindly push it over the finish line so that it can register an official race time. Well, this year that was "Arrow" - the Cowden's pine wood derby car. Every stinkin' time the car went down the ramp, it never finished on its own. MUCH to the dismay of Jonah (and a weepy-eyed mommy). Jonah was clearly shaken by this turn of events, after anticipating a very serious run for a trophy. He soon wanted nothing to do w/ the event At All. Well, the other boys were very kind to Jonah, telling him "it's ok", & "that was my car last year" & "you're doing good!" It was tough to see (!!!!) but in the end, he bounced back and was so excited to learn he got a ribbon! Yay for those participatory ribbons!!!!

This sign - made by Jonah! - is from the annual Scout banquet. The Wolves table was lined w/ a sign for each of the boys. I love this!
The Scout year is almost over. Here's his buddy Jameson. (still at the banquet)
